Thank you, Donna, for asking what ILCA is up to these days, regarding IBCLC
promotion and marketing ... in addition to its non-profit purpose of
providing education and professional development opportunities.

My all-time favorite freebie download is the ILCA Position Paper Role and
Impact of the IBCLC, available in English, Spanish, Croatian, Japanese,
Russian and Arabic: http://www.ilca.org/i4a/pages/index.cfm?pageid=3933

Here is a blog piece I did in January 2013, titled "What's In It for You?"
and which offers easy-links to efforts and documents underway at ILCA.
http://lactationmatters.org/2013/01/02/whats-in-it-for-you-at-your-professional-association-a-letter-from-ilca-president-liz-brooks/

Of course, a lot has happened since January; in July 2013 the Board
expanded its Strategic Plan (announce at the Annual General Meeting.

Those of you like Donna, living in the USA, know that the United States
Lactation Consultant Association (USLCA) has been up-to-its-neck in
advocacy matters involving licensure (a long road ...), reimbursement under
the federal Affordable Care Act for lactation care and pumps, and lobbying
of CMS at the federal level and Medicaid officers at the state level to
open eyes to the need for Medicaid-eligible mothers (more than 50% of the
child-bearing aged women in the USA) to have access to IBCLC care in the
community.

Members of ILCA get a round-up of association activity with each month's
newsletter; our national/multi-national affiliates (USLCA, Canadian
Lactation Consultant Association, and Lactation Consultants of Australia
and New Zealand) also have great monthly newsletters (and I hope y'all are
clicking through and reading them, rather than deleting them unopened).

And of course you can surf the website of the organizations involved:
www.ilca.org, www.uslca.org, www.clca-accl.ca, and wwww.lcanz.org.
