A blower I've used successfully for 'Bernoulli' exhibits with a
typical-sized beach ball is rated at 800 cubic metres per hour in 'free-air'
with no back-pressure. That translates as 470 cubic feet per minute, I
think. Just an ordinary centrifugal air-conditioning fan.

I have heard tales of at least one gruesome accident with this exhibit. But
aside from the obvious extremely important safety factors, it is also
essential to reduce turbulence in the air flow. The Cookbook design achieves
this with a tapered (stolen?!) road traffic cone. Alternatively, you can do
this by passing the air through a bundle of 2-inch diameter plastic tubes
about 8 inches long, or something similar.

Promoting public engagement with science
through a contagious delight in phenomena

Give people facts and you feed their minds for an hour.
Awaken curiosity and they feed their own minds for a lifetime.
