Greetings All!

Volume 25 of *BEADS: Journal of the Society of Bead Researchers *will
shortly be rolling off the presses.

An article that should be useful to those interested in North American
trade beads is "Beads from the Hudson’s Bay Company’s Principal Depot, York
Factory, Manitoba, Canada," by Karlis Karklins and Gary F. Adams. This
extensive report presents a detailed description of the 277 different
varieties of glass, ceramic, plastic, metal, and bone beads that were
recovered from the site of York Factory III which was occupied from 1792 to
1957. A color macro photograph of each variety is provided.

The other articles included "Early Chinese Faience and Glass Beads and
Pendants," by Simon Kwan, translated by Jeffrey A. Keller, which is the
first substantial English-language report on the subject. The detailed text
is supplemented by 58 excellent color images of the various types of beads
that are discussed. Filling out the issue is Valerie Hector's article on
"Chinese Bead Curtains, Past and Present" which examines the historical
evidence for bead curtains in Imperial China followed by a discussion of
20th-century curtain iconography and the beads of various materials that
comprise the curtains.

The journal may be purchased by contacting Alice Scherer
(*[log in to unmask]*<[log in to unmask]>)
or sending payment via PayPal to

With best wishes,

Karlis Karklins
