Tunnels in Selma Alabama have been investigated.  Local folklore describes
them as avenues for slave escapes and routes for Civil War munitions but
they are most likely primarily Antebellum waste water tunnels that carried
excess water from continually flowing artesian wells in the city to the
Alabama River. 

CRM company associated with Larry McKee has written a report (name of
company escapes me at the moment)
