I once made a little hand-held game that involved a marble and a
parabola-shaped ramp with little notched out "resting spots" in it,
all sandwiched within a rectangular box of acrylic.  No matter how you
shook the box or tipped it back and forth, the marble would only come
to rest within one of the notches if you spun the whole unit around
just so.  It's hard to explain, but easy to understand if you see it.
I'll try to find a photo to send you if you're interested, and if you
are able to fabricate something like this for your program.  It held
people's attention, especially once they saw someone succeed. Even
knowing the secret, it took several tries to make it work.  And people
couldn't quite believe they couldn't replicate the success with a
tipping rather than a spinning motion, so they tried over and over
again..
