I assume by "black" the mom is speaking of the same thing I used to have.  It was kind of a dark purple color.  It hasn't happened in at least 16 years and I still cringe just thinking about it.  I found that it helped to avoid cold.  I didn't pump, but my biggest problem was right after the baby would unlatch and the air would hit it.  The best thing I found was to keep a nursing pad inside my top while the baby nursed and and then get it out and cover my nipple with it the second the baby let go.  If it is primarily when she first starts pumping, before there was enough milk in the containers to warm them, I wonder if she could try running the horns and collection bottle under hot water, right before she starts pumping, so they start out warm.  Couldn't hurt, anyway!
