Now
that Astronomy Day is over, consider applying for the annual Astronomy Day
Award (sponsored by Sky & Telescope,
the American Astronomical Society and the Astronomical League).  Each year hundreds of locations across the
globe host events but very few enter.  This year why not make it the year you enter?  Events held June 2012 through May 2013 are eligible.

For
complete details and an application (that can be submitted electronically) go
to:  http://www.astroleague.org/al/astroday/astrodayform.html

Today
the Award has three primary prize winners, one each for 3 population size
categories ($150 each): Large, Medium & Small, two secondary ($50) awards
for:
·         Best new idea
·         The organization that does quality events year
after year (determined by previous entries)
and Honorable Mentions for those groups in final contention
for the primary award.

If
nothing else, now is the time to start planning your event for the fall
Astronomy Day (October 12, 2013) and then you can enter next year’s award.  For a free multi-page handbook to assist in
planning, go to the web site above

Astronomy
Day is cosponsored by 14 astronomical and astronomy education associations and
is endorsed by the International Astronomical Union
