The Astronomical Society of the Pacific is planning a new initiative to explore astronomy learning in young children from ages 3 to 8. The project will specifically investigate children’s perceptions of celestial motion of the Earth, Sun, Moon and stars, and develop a trajectory of age-appropriate concepts and hands-on experiences that prepare young children for lifelong astronomy learning and enjoyment. In preparation, we are surveying a broad spectrum of informal science education providers to identify current practices and to gauge interest in exploring astronomy for young children.
