ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers
Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.

All,

Two weeks ago, President Obama released his federal budget request for Fiscal Year 2013. The request offers ASTC and its members our first glimpse of what we might expect from the agencies and programs we count on for support-financial and otherwise-in the fiscal year that begins on October 1. Unfortunately (and as has been discussed here on the listserv) the news isn't good for programs like Informal Science Education at the National Science Foundation and Competitive Education Grants at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The proposed spending levels and areas of emphasis for these activities, in addition to those offered by the National Institutes of Health, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the Department of Education, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and the Department of Energy, are summarized in "The FY 2013 Budget Request: An Overview," which is available in the Government Relations section of the ASTC website: http://www.astc.org/about/government/index.htm.

ASTC and the ASTC Public Policy Committee are already implementing a legislative strategy to address the aforementioned proposed cuts, and will need your support as the appropriations process moves forward. Stay tuned for an overview of our action plan and ways you can help with the effort. In the meantime, feel free to contact me at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> with any questions or comments.

Thanks,
Sean
