It is fine to criticize the study, and linking planter dust to CCD
certainly invites criticism. But isn't it true that planter dust WAS
linked to a very large mortality of colonies (Germany and clothianidin
I think) and resulted in pulling the registration for the product for
a short time and a substantial payout to beekeepers by Bayer?
I seem to recall that there was some error made in the formulation,
perhaps with the sticking agent, but that incident does show that
mortality from planter dust is not far fetched, and that what does
and does not cause mortality is not a huge leap, and the premise for
the study is sound and worth looking at.
