Well, yes, the likelihood that a "feral" swarm actually originated from a managed hive is fairly high. Given the lack of management that leads to swarming, I would concede the point without much argument. However, some of us have noticed and watched, and caught swarms from a colony that continues to survive for years quite nicely in hollow trees, brick buildings, and other locations that defy trap outs. I've had some of my ferals genetically tested and the diversity is remarkable, not just the normal commercial stock.
I'd have to say some ferals are truly ferals and they continue to survive.
