Are there badgers in America? On a couple of occasions I have had hives
badgered in the way you describe. The first time I was able to follow a
trail of frames down their trail.
Yes, we have the American badger (Taxidea taxus). It is a _North
American_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_America) _badger_
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Badger) , somewhat similar in appearance to the _European
badger_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_badger) , found in the western and
central _United States_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States) .
My crew told me someone was stealing hives on the Idaho National
Engineering Site, which seemed really odd, since you have to have security clearance
to get to the area where we had the hives.
I went to look, counted, and found they were correct; several hives were
missing.
I looked around, walked out into the sagebrush. I stubbed my toe on
something. Looked down, and found the corner of a hive-body sticking up. The
animal was carrying off the nucs and burying them.
