I had a two friends with PUPPS many years ago. One used powdered beet root along with steroids which was very effective. The other was from India and used herbs and diet an ayurvedic Dr. prescribed for her. Both suffered terribly until they were treated.

This Mothering.com forum can give an insight into what women are using successfully and not so successfully for PUPPS and it appears that it does continue after pregnancy in some women.

Interesting to note is that nettle tea was very effective for some of these moms, as was dandelion both of which are very very nourishing and both of which have been traditionally used for supporting liver function. For some women, according to mobimotherhood, these teas can help increase milk supply.

Perhaps this mother can work with an ND, or Herbalist or Dr. of TCM and Acupuncture (which is very effective in treating liver imbalance or "stagnation"). Being that it is spring, she may be able to pick some fresh leaves of Nettle and Dandelion (providing they haven't been sprayed with anything noxious) and put them in her salads, which she might really like as they are very tasty and similar to spinach in flavor. The health food stores around here carry fresh dandelion leaves in their produce sections, which can also be used in soup as can fresh or dried nettle leaves.
