Some mothers are giving formula so that they can freeze some breastmilk to give after weaning.  Their logic is that they would like to provide some extended protection from infection by giving 1-2 bottles/day of this frozen milk between (typically) 3 and 6 months.
I have not been supporting the notion of introducing formula so that frozen milk can be available at some later date.  Bottom line - is there any research to show that 3-8 oz/day of frozen milk would be valuable to an older infant - enough to justify early formula intro? Have been assuming not but...
