Then you've never worked in the middle of a town, where workers spent all day digging out medieval latrines but couldn't wash their hands at breaks because there was no running water in winter, and shopkeepers and café owners discourage the use of their toilets by dirty, smelly archaeologists

List - Sounds great to me. I always thought that was a distinct advantage of a good deal of historic archaeology - parking, toilets, nearby food, and so on.
