A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of having Marta Guoth-Gumberger, a German LC and LLL at my home for lunch. We had an absolute ball talking over all things relactation/induced lactation and adoptive breastfeeding in which Marta specialises (like I do). Marta gave me a copy of a booklet she has written on using an SNS. I hadn't seen this before because no one sells it in Australia (that I am aware of). The booklet is so comprehensive and practical and I am really impressed by it. Medela's instructions with the SNS are both woefully inadequate and misleading and mums usually do not have someone who is an expert on SNS' to assist them (unless someone has used an SNS personally I do not think that they can really be an expert). I've sent it to a few new adoptive mums/mums to be for evaluation (I'm hoping that ABA will start selling it), today I heard back from one of these women. This is a new adoptive mum, no previous experience with breastfeeding and baby is several months old. She said, "Since I spoke to you I have managed to get XXX feeding really well using the SNS...so thank you for all of your advice! The booklet was actually really helpful...it has a lot of detail that I was able to just follow step by step and I don't know that I would have been as successful without it. "
Anyway, I would encourage others to check out the booklet and consider having it available for any woman who might need to use a breastfeeding supplementer. Marta's website is
http://www.breastfeeding-support.de/eng/pub.htm
As an aside, I don't know if it is just me noticing it more, but there seems to be more and more women who have insufficient glandular tissue and are using a breastfeeding supplementer. Anyone else seeing this?
