Hey, Charlie, I don't think this article has anything to do with genetics.  You get half your genes from each of your parents, one-quarter from each your grandparents — play it back ten generations and the number of genes you get from any single ancestor is vanishingly small.  You basically are no more closely related to that ancestor than to any other member of the same tribe.  If that's true, then the results of this research reflect social lineage only and not genetic heritage.

The results themselves are puzzling and suggest effects beyond transitory environmental effects.  Who knows it may be the reason we all have names which convey some indication of lineage, and tracing your ancestors may be more than simple fun.
