Hi Rachel,

I've used a number of physical hardware systems including iclickers, etc.
But I generally use a web-based system called polleverywhere:
http://www.polleverywhere.com/. They started as an sms-based system for
text message polling; they still do that quite well, but now offer a
number of flexible options such as web or smartphone voting, twitter
polls, etc. What I like about using cell phones is that there is no
learning curve for the technology, because everyone knows how their own
cell phone works. The interfaces are quite intuitive and it's pretty easy
to set things up. The only challenge I have experienced is that if you
have a lot of people in your audience who do not have cell phones, you
will need to set up ways for people to vote for their colleagues (pretty
easy to do) or you can set up an option on a laptop or something.

I have been using their system for various kinds of things since 2008 and
they have always been interested in helping to prototype new ideas I'm
coming up with. I'm pretty sure you can set up an account for free and
play around as long as your polls have less than 30 people or something
like that.

Hope that helps,

- David...
