Thanks for your insight, Joy.
In response to your post, I think it would be totally appropriate for
hospital-based-non-RN-IBCLCs to be required to have CPR (I am required to
have it as a employee of Sea Mar Community Health Centers which manages our
local WIC agency and more). Also, in a hospital, surely there are RNs
available in case of a nursing emergency? I don't think that this is reason
to not employee non-RN IBCLCs.
As for your mention that IBCLCs cannot belong to the union - you've got me
anxious now! I am an IBCLC and I belong to a union. Did I miss something -
is this not permitted by IBLCE and I just didn't realize it, or is this just
your particular union rule, or .???
