I use a 20% vinegar around mine and it works well.  It does not kill the plant 100% but acts as a defoliant.  I also use it heavily around my fruit trees and grapes prior to mulching.  You can cut it down to about 15% and still maintain its effectiveness.  I purchase 55 gallons at a time but I am sure you can find it in smaller quantities.

This is also called Ag Vinegar.

If you use it during a dry spell you'll see die back 48 hours later and 100% leaf crop browning in 4 days.  It really does work well on both broadleaf and grass.  Brush not nearly as well, but great if you are looking for an organic alternative.
