I had a call today, mom exclusively pumping for twins , they are 1 month old this past week. Mom and babies are home. Mom states she has been pumping 4-5oz out of each breast but these past 2 days her supply is going down, only getting 4 oz total per session. She said she has been spotting some these past few days so I am thinking hormone fluctuation causing the dip in volume. But she wanted to know how much should she be pumping per 24hrs. she stated the babies eat every 1 1/2 hrs about 2 1/2 oz. When I did the math I came up with 80oz is how much mom needs to be getting in 24hrs. Each baby eats 40oz/24hrs. Is that correct? I saw on kellymom that she needs to shoot for 27-32 oz by 14 days postpartum, but can't find anything with month old volume needs. She is only using a single electric pump and has an appt with WIC today, I encouraged her to get a hospital pump for better results. Thank you for reading my question and any education you can provide me..i love having access to you smart ladies!! :)
