behind them even offering this if they don't want anyone giving out nutritional 
information but them?"

Did you read the original post that included the criteria?  The reason is plain 
and simple -$$$$$$$$$$$$.  Look at the cost of such membership which offers no 
advantages to the assiciate member (can't vote etc.)!  The article even said it 
was going to be a way to raise more money for the ADA.
