Personally, I love to speak at conferences that have sponsorship from
companies that violate the International Code...it means I get to not only
talk to the non-converted (so important as you say Ellen) but I also get to
give my spiel about my presence at the conference not implying agreement
with the marketing practices of conference sponsors that breach the Code.
As has been said many times, breast pumps are not covered by the code but
feeding bottles are and many companies that make and market breastpumps also
make and market infant feeding bottles in ways that breach the Code...I'm
wondering though if what you really mean is that you differentiate between
Medela and other companies that market feeding bottles in ways that breach
the Code?? Forgive me if I have misinterpreted what you wrote.

Subject: IBCLCs lecturing at WHO code violator sponsored events.
The second scenario is IBCLC's who agree to speak at HCP gatherings
sponsored by a Code Violator. Again, here we do have opportunity to meet
face to face and give our take on many topics which are not always clear to
HCP's who usually are not provided with an opportunity to sit and discuss
our common interest. As far as I remember, the issue of the Code covers
companies who are preaching and giving freebies to the public. But correct
me if I am wrong but reps of these companies may turn to and give their
information to hcpS. As long as no money is passing from that company to the
IBCLC then I honestly don't see anything wrong here. (and even if she does
get paid, it is a business agreement and not a sponsorship so here I am not
sure about this-very grey area)
I personally differentiate between formula manufacturers and pump companies.
