This topic has really made me feel uncomfortable.  Two steps forward and
twenty steps backwards!

Gonneke, the position you described is similar to what we use.  Our post
Caesarean mothers are semi reclined with baby skin-to-skin on mother's
chest.  A pillow is put under each of the mother's arms and the cots sides
put up. This facilitates mother cradling her baby, even when sleepy.   If
she dozes off and baby should slip (it's never happened) baby will not go
far!  Usually the father or other birth partner is present as an extra
safety precaution.
