There are several problems with whole milk for a 6 mo old. It has twice the
protein of breastmilk--made for growing bulk not brains (cows vs humans),
and the balance of nutrients is quite different from brmilk. So breastmilk
is definitely preferred, formula can substitute, or whole milk can be used
if the baby has an excellent varied diet of non-processed foods (not jarred
baby foods), and the protein does not exceed about 2 grams per kg of baby's
weight, with an iron supplement if meat is not used daily.
