Gonneke asks about other animals who have their breasts/nipples in a forward
location. My family is finishing a Disney vacation, and my husband has been
amused (though not surprised or disturbed) to hear me ask about animal
breastfeeding a couple times. The gentleman standing by the gorilla area
was very matter of fact about the gorillas nursing to three years or so and
volunteered that his wife nursed their child to four years. At the manatee
rescue area, the young woman said she'd never been asked about manatee
nursing before. She explained that manatees have nipples in the axillary
area, under the front flippers, so babies nuzzle up under mama's flipper to
nurse. This provides a more stable position for baby, as distinct from
dolphins, who are more mobile and agile and who nurse at nipples located on
either side of the genital slit, more aft.

Interesting topic!

Spencer...headed back to the snowy northeast tonight, but for now still
wearing shorts!
