Katie - I work on programming for English Language Learners in the New York area, but my work is primarily in English.

In terms of museums in New York that are doing work in Spanish, the two place to contact are El Museo del Barrio and Queens Museum of Art. You can contact me off-list for a contact person for QMA.

Subject: Re-try and clarification: Spanish language programming/Spanish-speaking visitors

I am a bit surprised that I've gotten no response from this list to my
queries, but I noticed something that might have confused folks, so
I'm just going to double-check! We're interested in this programming
in *museums* as well as zoos/aquariums (I missed that in one part of
the message). Here's what I originally sent, with that modification:

We are looking for any information that might be available on Spanish
language programming in MUSEUMS and/or zoos and/or aquariums, in one
or more of these areas:

1) stats on museum/aq/zoo visitation by Spanish speakers,

2) stats on handheld use/ownership/adoption by Spanish speakers (in or
out of mus/aq/zoo)

3) any recent info on cool/unusual language provisioning (for Spanish
or otherwise) approaches in mus/aq/zoos, (particularly things BEYOND
bilingual signage/handouts and audio tour-type translation - the
archives provided many places/programs ya'll think are doing that part
well)

Does anyone know of such (especially #1 and 2) either reports, or
research, on individual sites or multiple? Any leads would be
appreciated. I would be happy to collate and then furnish the list
with a summary of responses.

Thank you,
Katie Stofer
