Hi Charlie,

If you wouldn't mind sending me a copy of that as well, I'd really appreciate it. It's helpful when I get general questions from reporters about the value of science centers to their community.

Many thanks!

LHH

We have do an annual analysis of the Sciencenter's economic impact on local
tax and tourism, which we use as part of our proposal to our county's
tourism board each year. I don't know if this listserv accepts attachments,
but I'll try in a separate message.

If that doesn't come thru, email me and I'll be happy to send our
spreadsheet to you.

Contact your local Convention and Visitors Bureau. Find out the dollar
metrics they use for a) a family/individual that stays in town for the day,
b) stays in town overnight.

If you get collect at your science center on your out-of-town visitors (for
example, if you collect their zip codes at your admissions desk), you can
then calculate an approximate value on how much money your visitors spend in
the local economy.

Yes, I know there are other tangentials - are they staying overnight in a
hotel or at a friend, are they coming primarily to visit your museum or
another venue, etc, etc. But this rough calculation will still be
appreciated by your board, local elected officals, and the CVB.

Hello,

Are there any numbers somewhere about the quantifiable value a small science
center adds to a community? I am thinking along the lines of increase in
property values, job creation, attractiveness to new businesses.
Thanks for any resources you can share.

Best,
Tabatha
