2nd SHA pXRF Symposium Session Participants and other Interested Parties:

Thank YOU, ALL for the flood of interest shown in the 2nd SHA pXRF
Symposium. We appreciate the fact that many of you have indicated that you
would like to present at the Symposium and we have a full roster of
participants that will make our symposium robust, interesting and fun for
all!

Dr. Claudia Brackett of California State University-Stanislaus and the
University of the Pacific and Mr. Dennis Piechota of the Fiske Laboratory of
the University of Massachusetts have agreed to act as Discussants for our
Symposium. We NOW need to get copies of YOUR presentations to Dr. Brackett
and Mr. Piechota by DECEMBER 15th so that they have time to review them
BEFORE the conference.

We NOW have presentations scheduled on a wide variety of topics from several
studies of pXRF applications to Underwater Archaeology to a critical
examination of pXRF data from Kiva paintings and laboratory ceramics in the
American Southwest to CSF soil pXRF studies of a Roman site in Transylvania
to soil and plant pXRF studies of the Presidio at San Francisco, analysis of
materials from the Queen Anne's Revenge, analysis of historic paintings and
will be gearing up for the excitement of the symposium and the fun of a
Post-Symposium Cruise\Field Trip to sites in the Caribbean!!

Dr. Claudia Brackett and I have made reservations on the January 9th
Carnival Cruise Line ship Carnival Conquest for a 7 night, Post-Symposium
Cruise\Field Trip to Wondjina Research Institute's (WRI) Project Areas at
St. Anne's Bay Jamaica and Cozumel, Mexico. We invite Symposium
participants and any other SHA members to join us on this, informal,
fun-filled, relaxing and relatively INEXPENSIVE adventure cruise.

With current cruise rates at a near all time low, Dr. Claudia Brackett and I
decided that we JUST HAD to take advantage of the incredibly low, per day,
rates that are being advertized for this cruise on EXPEDIA (www.EXPEDIA.com)
(from $71-$193 per night per person, all inclusive, rates for Inside Rooms
to Suites with accommodations and on-board meals) to visit our study areas
in Jamaica and Mexico.

We invite any of you to join us AFTER the Symposium Session on January 8th
on this cruise by going to the Carnival website (www.carnival.com) or any
of the travel agencies\websites and check out this deal for yourselves. This
trip is NOT SPONSORED by SHA, WRI or any other organization and is planned
for an informal group that shares common interests with us in historic and
prehistoric era sites and the new and rapidly emerging technologies that
will be discussed at the SHA Conference in Austin.

The cruise leaves Galveston, Texas at 4:00 p.m. on January 9th (and you
have to be ON BOARD and CHECKED IN by 3:00 p.m.) and will visit Montego Bay,
Jamaica, (one day ashore), Grand Cayman (one day ashore) and Cozumel, Mexico
(one day ashore) and return to Galveston on the 16th of January. Claudia
and I are currently planning to try to arrange tours of the St. Anne's Bay
area (Nueva Sevilla, Playa de Colon, Colonial Sites in the town of St.
Anne's Bay, Colonial Sugar Plantations for the 12th) and Cozumel, Mexico
(the Maya ruins at Tulum and San Gervasio) with local archaeologists OR YOU
can JUST go on your own to sample the many attractions of Jamaica, Grand
Cayman or Cozumel on your own (See the Carnival website for all of the
potential attractions).

If you have any questions on cruising or our planned itinerary, please feel
free to give Claudia or myself a call at WRI's Sonora, California Office
number. We have cruised with Carnival and Royal Caribbean before and many of
you have heard of the GREAT time we had before SHA this year on our cruise
to the Bahamas. The Carnival ships are first class and the food and service
is excellent! We advise you to make your reservations EARLY as these deals
cannot last long at these prices.

If you do make reservations, please let us know so that we can have a group
sitting at the meals and have some idea as to the number of persons who
will be accompanying us on the Field Trips to WRI's Project sites in Jamaica
and Mexico. As these Field Trips are INFORMAL and NOT part of the cruise
cost, we will make local transportation arrangements on the basis of the
number of participants and split the costs, equitably, among the
participants.

REMEMBER! If you want to go with us, ALL are welcome BUT ALL have to have
valid travel documents for visits to Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Mexico
INCLUDING US passports for US citizens.

Please feel free to call Claudia or myself at WRI's Sonora California Office
number: (209) 532-3873, her cell number: (209-743-9397) or my Arizona cell
number: (928-274-6529) if you have any questions or just want to chat.

Remember, as in past SHA Conferences, Claudia and I will presenting the
1-day SHA Archaeochemical Workshop at Austin including a half day of field
surveys. More information on that will be sent out soon.

Finally, Welcome aboard! Claudia and I are looking forward to seeing you in
Austin!

Sincerely,
