?> I have thought about using UV tubes for disinfecting combs, and agree
that a modified uncapping line with two UV tubes could well be effective.
Would be easy to test, if someone had the inclination.

I'd be amazed if the ubiquitous UV fluorescent lights have much action
against spores, but who knows? They are safe enough for us to look at them
and be around them for extended periods of time. I don't know much about
the wavelengths.

The UV in sunlight has little short-term effect on our skin and some
beneficial effects, even, but even short exposure to sunlight UV kills bee
larvae in frames laid against hives in a matter of minutes. It's not the
heat, it is not the light, it is not the temp; it is the UV.

I'm thinking of something much more like the grow lights that are used in
grow-ops. I had a chance to see some when I happened to land our rented
houseboat at Seymour Arm on the Shuswap right at the time the Police raided
the town.

The entire town was growing a popular, but illegal herb for export. The
swarm of police, all in black shirts with "POLICE" on the back had a fleet
of rental trucks loaded full of industrial grade lights and were towing away
the high-powered generators used to energize them. It was quite a sight.

I wonder if this equipment comes up at police sales?
