After almost 40 years looking at toxic chemicals and bees (remember, I
spent much of my career working for EPA and DOE, using bees as environmental
monitors of industrial, military, and agricultural chemicals - one thing was
clear - body size is a factor.
I've seen leaf cutters falling out of the sky and honey bees sustaining
little damage on the same field following a spray incident.
The same exposure dose may result in a higher effective dose to a small bee
versus a large bee - e.g., leaf cutter - honey bee - bumble bee.
Admittedly, this is just one factor in a complex of issues that affect
dose.
