Dear Lactnet readers,
I have been asked this question from moms, can I mix little breastmilk with formula or cows' milk? It is usually when they are weaning and have only a small amount of breastmilk left and they don't want to throw it out.
I have heard that the cows' milk or formula destroys some of the ingredients in the breastmilk so it is best to give baby breastmilk separately? Are there any studies to support this? Is there evidence based information out there?
I remember thinking that if mom mixed a little of the other formula with her breastmilk the baby would adjust to the taste easier. But I have been told that some of the babies vomited the milk when it was mixed.
I would appreciate any information you can pass on as always.
