We use our stream table to teach litter in the ocean to young children of about 5 to 12 years old. It works extremely well in that they can see how litter dropped anywhere inland will eventually find it's way to the sea via storm drains and rivers. We have the kids float down clean trash like styrofoam containers and bottles, but they also have great fun with balls and rubber fish. Beforehand we ask, "Who drops litter in the sea?" and they say "people
at sea or on the beach" and after the stream table they say "huh, I
guess it is all of us."

The table itself is sort of horseshoe shaped, around 4 foot high at one end and a foot high at the oter. The flow of water along it is just enough to float the above mentioned down it and we have installed pumps and water inlets along it to simulate rainfall and storm water run off.

Hope this helps,

A small regional museum is considering an indoor water play exhibit with "water conservation" as the theme.  In particular more along the lines of issues with ground water, run off, etc. than leaking faucets or waste. The visitor age group is on the young side.  They are hoping for a stream table maybe 10-12 feet long.  I would love to hear folk's ideas about what they know of that might be similar and works well or does not.  They need examples to point to when speaking with funder(s).
