Dear Friends:

Thank you Virginia, for your reply.

There is no evidence that I could find that physiologic saline soaks create
any risk to the infant. Physiologic or normal saline is 9 grams of NaCl to 1
liter of water, or 2 level teaspoons to 1 quart of water, or 1 level
teaspoon to 1 pint. Wonderful stuff for cleansing wounds too. I used gallons
of it doing wound dressings when I was a public health nurse.

I couldn't find any evidence that it is good for injured or sore nipples
either. Does anyone know of any?

warmly,

Nikki Lee RN, BSN, Mother of 2, MS, IBCLC, CCE, CIMI
