As an LLLL, WIC PC and 2009 exam candidate, I have been following this
thread with interest. Currently, I am not in favor of the CBC credential
idea. I already feel like the minimum requirements to sit for the IBLCE exam
are pretty much the minimum standard for someone working with mothers in a
professional LC capacity.

To be honest, when the exam pathways changed I felt the change in required
breastfeeding counseling hours to only 1000 hrs was way too low. I think
the minimum should be 2500 and more than the current 45 CERPS (60 perhaps?)
should be required before even sitting the exam. I know the changes were not
made lightly and that there is probably science behind the pathways changes
but the newer requirements seem so lenient. I am excited to be sitting the
exam in a few weeks but I want those credentials to mean something!

I agree that some sort of public awareness campaign by IBLCE would be a wise
move. Also as other health care fields embrace the role of IBCLC perhaps
general awareness will increase as well. Does IBLCE ever table at other
health care conferences? That might be a way to reach out to other HCPs and
begin to bridge some gaps. Most moms I support just assume they saw the
"lactation consultant or lactation nurse" at the hospital/clinic when often
they never did see an IBCLC. I know many of us do our share mopping up
those case issues....
