My grandfather operated a grocery store in Taos, NM in the 1930s-1940s. I have one of the small hand saws he used to butcher meat. He did not have a band saw. But, then, northern New Mexico was still a frontier area until after WW II, so perhaps that technology, for animal butchering at least, wasn't in use here at that point.

On a side note, he died from blood poisoning after he cut himself with while butchering and packed the wound with spider webs from the basement, apparently a common if not hygienic practice.

Even a bad day in the field is better than a good day in the office.

Hi,

Does anyone have REAL documentation for the commercial use of
bandsaws by butchers? The bandsaw itself was not apparently invented
until the very early 1800s, but how long was it before its use was
adopted by butchers?

Thanks in advance, Mark
