The AS-1 seismometer is rugged, sensitive, and all the working parts are
visible, making interpretation easy. The accompanying AmaSeis software has
a constantly updating 24-hour display and you can manually scroll back in
the history, if you wish. We got ours from an IRIS Seismometers in Schools
program (www.iris.edu) It comes with everything including the software and
IRIS can get you a license to SnagIt to allow you to capture the screen and
export it via ftp (ours is at http://www.davinci-center.org/dvsc.gif). Even
just sitting on a table top, ours records M6.5+ quakes from anywhere in the
world, M5.5+ quakes in North America and local M2 quakes.
