CCD colonies don't necessarily abscond.  We've had colonies on bee  
counters - they lose waves of bees, sometimes lots in a day, then fewer, then  
another wave of loses.
 
Some beekeepers did report a form of swarming in stockpile yards - but  
remember, most CCD hives still have the queen and a small retinue of young bees 
 - and yes, in our colonies, its the original queen, not her replacement.
 
This is not what I call absconding.
