ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers
Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.

Museum of Science, Boston owns 4 penny presses. All of them are hand
cranked. Originally, we leased our first 2, splitting the income with
the company. They maintained them and periodically replaced the
impressions. The down side of these were that when they broke it could
be a few days before they were repaired and, of course, splitting the
revenue. The company went out of business and we bought the machines and
maintain them ourselves now.
We purchased two other machines about 2 years ago from the Penny-Press
Machine Co. (pennypressmachineco.com <www.pennypressmachineco.com>). So
far maintaining them has been minimal - jammed coins, broken springs,
etc. We purchase replacement parts right from the company and our
Exhibit Maintenance staff keeps them going. They cost about $3,000 each.
They take in between $750 - $1,000 each per month, but keep in mind our
attendance quite high. I would highly recommend these machines,
especially if you have the means to maintain them yourself.
