Wouldn't it be easier and just as safe to use PayPal? Might cost you a few dollars in fees, but far more people have PayPal than the Google version.

Cathy,

At the Discovery Center of Idaho, we recently implemented our first
online transactions. We're now taking memberships and donations online.
We decided to use Google Check-Out. They have (or had) a special deal
that our Marketing Director found where they won't charge fees to
non-profits for the rest of this year. The only difficultly for us was
gathering information. This deal was for their "Buy Now!" button and
supposed to be for one item only. After looking at the code, it wasn't
too hard to add a small bit of JavaScript that allowed us to gather
additional information. We also don't have an IT staff so I ended up
building it. If you're interested, you can lift the code from our site:
http://scidaho.org/Donate/Memberships.php Google also asks for their
address. Between what's on our page and what Google wants, we got all
the information we needed and didn't have to worry about security at
all. If you have specific questions about what we did, feel free to
contact me off list.

As for expectations, we weren't sure what to expect. In the month that
it has been up, we've gotten about 20 memberships through the site which
are easier for us to process than over the phone so we're considering it
a success. Good luck.

Cheers,
T. Woody Sobey

Assuming we will move forward to provide this service, WonderLab is a
very small museum and does not have an IT staff to build and maintain an
in-house system. We would like to know how other museums in our
situation have provided this service for online membership sales and
donations.
