Thank you to everyone who responded either on the board and/or personally. The mom did begin pumping, we started her very low suction the first time and increased slowly but not very strong, she has since been able to pump at her strongest comfortable setting, and her platelets are back up to high 80's and climbing. She experienced no bruising. I did discuss hand expression with her but with her IV's and her "Mag hangover" she was not feeling strong enough or coordinated enough to do that. She is still very weak. Her baby is doing well, just FYI, and being weaned from O2 so hopefully later tonight she will be able to nurse.  Again thank you for the help, it is funny how these things (like HELLP, and tongue tie) seem to make the rounds in clusters.
