A quick Google for digital noise reduction turned up this:

about 2K, another 1.8K for amp.  I did find a plug in module made by  
TOA - less than a hundred dollars, but didn't delve into it to figure  
out if its convertible.....

I wasn't discounting the use of musik, only the ambient sound issue.   
Having said that, just stay away from stuff that is so short that the  
sheer repetitiveness will drive staff and volunteers - and some  
visitors, like me, nuts!

Would be an interesting thing to test, too, wouldn't it?  What  
percentage of visitors a) noticed the music and b)found that it  
impacted their experience.....
