How do you avoid crushing bees?
a) place the upper box at 45 degrees to the one below and then ease it into
line. That way you'll crush a maximum of 4 bees at the crossing points.
b) if you use smoke, replace the upper box by gently placing the far edge
almost in the correct position but forward of it by the width of the
woodwork. Lower the front edge onto a wooden wedge that you have placed there to
take the weight. You then apply smoke to get the bees out of harm's way
while you gently withdraw the wedge, lowering the box into the correct position.
