Cruel is anthropomorphic. I understand it is language use and it is often
very hard to continue with language that adheres to evolutionary thought
always. However, this stems from the misconception that evolution is a
fierce battle of survival of the fittest. Evolution produces the just fit
enough to survive and reproduce. Evolution or nature has no goals or end
point. This is part of the problem with evolution trees. We, and/or
multicultural organisms, wind up at the top as if to say we are the best, or
the goal of evolution, with unicellular organisms—microbes and archae at the
bottom. We know that we cold not survive without microbes and the
environment would collapse without them.
