Hello all,
Would you like a scale model Solar System exhibit to display during the upcoming
International Year of Astronomy?
"Planet Panorama" is available for your use - practically free of cost (see below).
"Planet Panorama" is a 13-panel traveling exhibit that highlights the relative
sizes and distances of the Sun, planets and other objects in the Solar System as
scaled to an American football field (roughly a 1:44 billion scale).
The panels' elements include full-disk scientific images of the Solar System
object, visualizations of its location and size, and the name of each object in
13 languages (yes, including English).
The panels are made of aluminum, digitally printed, and laminated. We have two
sets of panels: free-standing (panels are 18 inches wide by 60 inches high by
0.3 inch thick, with sturdy cast-iron stands) or wall-mounted (panels are 18
inches wide by 48 inches high by 0.15 inch thick).
More information is available on the website:
http://www.phy.ohiou.edu/~astro/PlanPan/
(The website is best viewed with Safari or newer versions of Internet Explorer.
Firefox has issues with some sections of it that use Javascript...)
The entire Planet Panorama exhibit may be borrowed free of charge (you pay
shipping and insurance, however).
Or - you may request a DVD with high-resolution TIFF images of the panels, which
you can then print on the media of your choice. For this, all you need to do is
send me a stamped, self-addressed CD/DVD mailer with the correct return postage.
Planet Panorama's design and construction was made possible by a NASA/STScI
IDEAS grant.
Here's wishing you a great 2009 - the International Year of Astronomy.
