The St. Louis Science Center began using Ning for it's Youth Exploring Science program more than a year ago. The Science Museum of Minnesota started a password protected site for teens in its Learning Places program with the St. Louis Science Center last year. The Learning Places program started a Ning site for collaboration among partners, but switched over to Basecamp for project management.
As evaluator for Learning Places, I can put you in touch with contacts at both museums if you are interested. Since evaluation is still in progress, I can't comment on how effective Ning has been.
On a side note, I am using Ning for my daughter's Girl Scout troop with huge success.

As it so happens, NEON (that's the National Education Outreach Network)
started a site on Ning about a month ago. Have your outreach staff sign
on at http://neonet.ning.com/

Hello,
If anyone is using Ning.com social networking at their institution for
