Joe,

plenty of units out there, and the rugged ones are often intended for emergency, or fire recovery applications , and so aren't price sensitive.

some things to keep in mind,

they are great attractors for the public
its hard to put them behind a good screen to keep them safe ( as most glazing will block the IR)
many/most units are designed to run off batteries, and while accepting a permanent power feed, won;t always
come up running when power is applied ( you need to hit a momentary switch to take them out of standby).

think about the design of your exhibit. can you keep the camera still, and allow poeple to move past it, or move things past it/ into view etc, so the camera isn;t subject to vibration.

cheaper units are monochrome, more expensive ones are false color. You can feed a monochrome signal into a pc and with some code do the false color conversion, and at the same time
capture the image ( print if you need to etc).

many manufacturers make units for electrical equipment inspection, and these aren't as precise, and as well calibrated, and so are cheaper.

FLIR make a range of units, but many others no doubt are out there.

hope this is of some help.

cheers

Colleagues,

We are building an exhibit requiring an Infrared camera. Can anyone
recommend an infrared camera make and model that you have found to have the
durability needed for an exhibit but will not break our budget. I have seen
lots of cameras listed for over 10k but only one under that mark and it
appears kind of fragile.

Any ideas and suggestions would be appreciated.
