ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers
Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.

There are numerous exhibit fabricators who specialize in re-creating or modeling of rock, earth, animals & plants. That would be the most durable way to go. It is possible to make it work with real materials collected from your area but you have to do a few things to kill off (sterilize) all microbes, fungi and such so it doesn't grow moldy and rot on you. You can then fill some sort of container either purchased or home made.

In addition there are other numerous "design" issues such as can people touch it, how tall is it, how heavy is it, etc?
