Histarchers,
Albert Gonzalez, an SMU grad student, is beginning his dissertation research on the Simeon Turley Mill and Distillery site near Taos, New Mexico. The site dates between about 1830 and 1847, when it was destroyed during the Taos Revolt of that year. In the course of initial documentary research, he has come across the name of one Job Dye, a man who was apparently responsible for supervising construction of the large structure at the site. After working on the structure, Dye left northern New Mexico for California, probably in the early to mid 1830s. He seems to have operated a distillery near Santa Cruz before acquiring a grant near or in Sacramento.
Does anyone out there have any information on Job Dye, or can anyone provide Albert with resources or resource locations? Please contact Albert with your responses at [log in to unmask] I've assured Albert that, if anyone can help him, histarchers can.
Mil gracias,
Jeff
