Hello!  I have been on lactnet for 12 years, but haven't posted in quite
awhile, so will reintroduce myself.  I am Anne Nans, CPNP, IBCLC.  I
currently live in the northern part of my husband's home state of New
York, but am a native Texas.  I work as a PNP, IBCLC in a private
pediatric practice where poverty is high and breastfeeding for just a  a
small period of time or not at all is the norm.

I am sure that the majority of us are very civil and appropriate to
mother's who wean for reasons we don't understand or never choose to
breastfeed in the first place.  We come to lactnet to vent and to lament
the choices these non breastfeeders and early weaners make.  I
personally grieve for the little infants who don't get any or enough of
their mothers milk.  I grieve for the mother who loses the incredibly
powerful experience of appropriate length nursing and have no idea what
they are missing.  Some of us work in areas where we are the light
supporting breastfeeding and may have to overcome much adversity toward
breastfeeding and naysayers among our staff and even our peers.

I read lactnet to realize I'm not alone in my quest to help mothers
breastfeed as much as they can for as long as they can.  I need to hear
from all of you other advocates who are also fighting strong currents of
formula as normal.  In my practice I work with mothers all the time who
feed formula.  I help them find ways to ease the constipation of their
babies and treat and care for them when they are ill, and do my best to
guide them when they are trialing many kinds of formula to find one
their baby will tolerate.  I care deeply for all my little patients and
their mothers, but feel tremendous sadness when they do not breastfeed.

If we can't vent our frustration about non breastfeeders and non
breastfeeding supporters here, then where can we?
